Sorry — but I don’t do CBT or Direct Access Training to enable you to get your motorcycle license.  When someone local calls me I usually refer them to MOTAG in Letchworth. (Visit my recommended links page).  Of all the commercial motorcycle trainers in Hertfordshire, Motag was the only one which invested the time with me to get involved in the Hertfordshire BikeSafe initiative.

I have little time for instructors and commercial training organisations who can’t be bothered to put something back into the community in which they work to develop the cause of Road Safety.  That’s one of the reasons why I give so much of my time to the Institute of Advanced Motorists — I served on the local Group Committee for 12 years, and Chaired it for 5. On a wider scale, I’m A Regional Motorcycle Advisor (also a voluntary role) and look after 16 IAM Motorcycle groups in the East of England. . I’m also a member of the local RoSPA Group and on the DSA’s Register of Post-Test Motorcycle Trainers. At the current date, I’m the only Approved Post-Test M/C Trainer in Hertfordshire.  All successful course participants will receive an Enhanced Rider Insurance Certificate (ERIC), which should entitle them to discounted insurance

(For Motorcyclists after the DSA Test)

The cheapest way of getting Advanced Motorcycle training is undoubtedly through joining a local RoSPA or IAM Group, which will cost you around £100, including the test.  Why is it so cheap?  Because every Group operates as a Charity so all the trainers do it for free.  It’s usually an excuse for them to ride their bikes and give something back to the group having had someone else prepare them for their tests.

The difficulty is that, whilst your Observer (trainer to you and I) has received some training, you don’t know how much.  The Group’s Senior Observers are very good, but their time is spent training Observers, not YOU!  The other problem is that many Groups have waiting lists, so it’ll take time for you to get your test preparation under way and you may need 8—10 runs to get you to test standard.

If you’re like me, once you’ve made a decision to take Advanced Training, you want to get on with it.

Being a RoSPA Diploma holder and an IAM Senior Observer, let’s just say that I can help you, what ever your level of experience.  I also train IAM Senior Observers!

How about a touring holiday (UK or abroad) where you’ll come back a much better rider than you were when you started—with an added coating of flies on your teeth

I can offer Advanced  Courses for IAM, RoSPA or DIA tests — or just get your riding safer, smoother—and quite possibly quicker.  The intention is that you get more from your machine.  The choice is yours.  I recommend half day courses— very intensive but manageable.  You should expect to cover 60-90 miles per half day.

I use bike to bike radio and have on-board video recording kit — a DVD of your riding can be a great learning tool!

As a DSA Registered Post Test Motorcycle Instructor, I offer the DSA’s approved Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS) will be incorporated into my courses. All successful riders will receive an Enhanced Rider Insurance Certificate (ERIC), which should entitle them to discounted insurance.  So, if you’ve recently passed your Motorcycle Test, this is an ideal place to start!
